First Science picnic in Croatia was held on Sunday 16th September, at Bocarski dom, popular family gathering place in Zagreb. World event format that is organized for the purpose of popularization of science and knowledge showed how mathematics, physics, chemistry, and all the other scientific disciplines have its audience in Croatia.
More than 9000 visitors on the first Science picnic confirmed that science and art in Croatia have bright future. Families with young children, teenagers and older people started coming by at 10 am to see, hear, and learn something new. Throughout sunny Sunday could hear the laughter and applause of enthusiasm after each experiment, completed workshop or theater performance.
Science picnic lasted the whole day and included science show performed by educators from Polish Copernicus Science Centre, which showed that “stress is just one of the pressures for the human body.” Sunday was also a day for numerous experiments and workshops organized by reputable scientists and student associations.
While scientists have spread knowledge, artists were there primarily to entertain. Besides theater play Professor Balthazar – Trip around the world, the School of Applied Art and Design worked rhinoceros from fruits and vegetables and had a creative workshop for making dolls and items out of fruits and vegetables.
To make the Science picnic content available every day, in a space suitable for science and education, Science picnic organizers NGO Professor Balthazar and “creative laboratory” Aquis, Escite member, work intensively on Science center named ZEZ, Croatian slang word for fun.
- In the world science centers are most popular places to socialize with science in an interactive and fun way. ZEZ will put Zagreb on the map of the promotion of science in this part of Europe and it will be the place both for families with small children and teenagers – described ZEZ one of its initiators, Davor Komericki, Aquis.
